About AHAF

The American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that funds research seeking cures for Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma, and provides the public with information about risk factors, preventative lifestyles, available treatments and coping strategies.

AHAF’s three programs are Alzheimer’s Disease Research, Macular Degeneration Research and National Glaucoma Research.

We disseminate vital information to the public, especially those affected by these age-related degenerative diseases, through our website, print publications, and TV and radio Public Service Announcements (PSAs). Our aim is to educate people about risk factors, the latest research, treatments, risk reduction through healthy lifestyles, and ways to cope with the effects of these diseases.

Through our toll-free phone number, 1-800-437-AHAF (2423), people can speak directly with a member of our information services staff, Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm for answers to questions, support and referrals.

The AHAF website contains a wealth of information on treatment, symptoms, risk factors, medical and research news updates and valuable resources for all three of these diseases.

AHAF is one of America's leading supporters of basic scientific investigations to better understand and find cures for Alzheimer's disease, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. We have awarded more than $96.7 million in research grants to some of the most prominent scientists at universities, hospitals and medical centers around the world. AHAF is currently supporting a total of 119 research grants:

• 58 projects through Alzheimer's Disease Research
• 29 through National Glaucoma Research
• 31 through Macular Degeneration Research
• 1 through the National Heart Foundation  

The AHAF website includes information on risk factors, symptoms, screening, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma.  The website also has expert answers to real life questions, responses to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), and the latest research news.  Medical illustrations and videos provide easily understood descriptions of the brain, the eyes and the progress of these diseases.

The AHAF website contains helpful information on living with the effects of Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. This includes ways to accommodate changing needs, stay safe, use low vision aids, find financial and legal assistance, and choose long-term living arrangements. The website also provides many resources for further assistance to those with the diseases as well as family and friends.

AHAF has a number of free booklets and brochures on these same topics, and these publications may be ordered by phone, mail or online.  Most materials are also available in Spanish; booklets and brochures on eye diseases are in large print.
