Executive Director's Summary
Kathleen Honaker
Executive Director
The backbone of the American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) is our loyal donors. I thoroughly enjoy hearing from, talking to and meeting with AHAF contributors. We are here to serve you by fulfilling the mission of the organization of working toward the day when the world is free at last of Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. I am grateful for the ongoing support and engagement of our donors. It is your commitment to AHAF that allows us to carry out our goals of providing public information to those dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma as well as to fund grants to researchers seeking treatments and cures for these diseases.
We continue to reach out to partner organizations including the American Heart Association, MD Support and Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind. Working with other organizations where possible to enhance the resources available to the people and their families dealing with degenerative illnesses is an ongoing priority of mine.
In addition, AHAF continues to provide updated publications free to the public as well as information on the website about Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. Facts, risk factors, symptoms, coping strategies, caregiver tips, clinical trials and resource lists about the three diseases are all available on the AHAF website. Most importantly, all AHAF funded research is listed on the website. Through e-mail alerts the latest research discoveries and breakthroughs are relayed to our donors.
Many thanks to the volunteers who provide endless hours of assistance to AHAF; you are very much appreciated. One group of volunteers is the Scientific Review Committee members who are outstanding scientists and researchers in their fields and who every year assist the Board of Directors in the review of the many exceptional funding proposals received.
AHAF has a reputation of funding some of the most innovative, cutting edge research being undertaken. My thanks goes to the dedicated scientists worldwide who are working to end the suffering of the patients and families diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma.
It is the donors that make all this work possible. I am forever appreciative and thankful for all your many generous donations. With your continued help, a cure is just around the corner.
