The American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) is committed to funding research on Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Through our programs, Alzheimer's Disease Research (ADR), Macular Degeneration Research (MDR), and National Glaucoma Research (NGR), we support scientists seeking cures for these debilitating, age-related diseases.

The second, equally important aspect of the AHAF mission is public outreach. We inform those directly affected, their caregivers, and the general public about a wide array of issues related to these three diseases. We publish a variety of booklets, brochures, articles, and newsletters with research updates, as well as information on prevention, healthy lifestyles, diagnosis, treatment, and coping strategies. We produce public service announcements (PSAs) for TV and radio, which can also be viewed on this site. The up-to-date, comprehensive information on our website makes it a valuable resource for the public and the media.

Journalists are welcome to use all of our publicly available information. Please credit AHAF and, if appropriate, the particular program, ADR, MDR, or NGR, as a source.

Publications

AHAF's publications are among the most highly regarded materials in the United States. One of each publication is free. Bulk orders can be purchased as well.

The American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) has entered into a partnership with BioMed Central's open access journal, Molecular Neurodegeneration (MN), in which MN is now the official journal of AHAF. The open access publishing model provides articles for free to the general public as well as scientists, clinicians, and other healthcare practitioners. Molecular Neurodegeneration publishes peer-reviewed, original scientific research on the causes of neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, and on the pre-clinical testing of potential therapies for these devastating diseases.
