Structure and Leadership
The American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) is governed by a Board of Directors composed of nine members and one honorary member with a broad range of experience and expertise. The Board ensures that donor contributions fund the highest quality research, and its members help AHAF achieve its public outreach objectives. The Board formulates plans, defines goals and objectives, and evaluates AHAF’s success in achieving its mission.
Each AHAF program, Alzheimer’s Disease Research (ADR), Macular Degeneration Research (MDR) and National Glaucoma Research (NGR), has its own Scientific Review Committee (SRC) composed of established, well-regarded investigators from universities and research institutes worldwide. All research funding applications are carefully peer-reviewed and rated by SRC members. The SRCs then convey their recommendations to the AHAF Board of Directors for final decisions on grant funding.
The Executive Director of AHAF manages all aspects of day-to-day operations and supervises all staff members. The managers of each department report directly to her. She guides the organization to ensure that AHAF is well-run, achieves the highest standards, plans for future, and meets or exceeds its goals. The Executive Director reports to the members of the Board and is in close contact with the SRCs.
