The American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) meets all twenty standards for charity accountability and has been approved by the Wise Giving Alliance of the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB evaluated AHAF’s governance, fundraising practices, solicitations, informational materials, and how well the organization spends its money.

The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.

The GuideStar Exchange is an initiative designed to connect nonprofits with current and potential supporters. With millions of people coming to GuideStar to learn more about nonprofit organizations, the GuideStar Exchange allows nonprofits to share a wealth of up-to-date information with GuideStar's vast on-line audience of grantmakers and individual donors. Exchange members are nonprofits that have updated their nonprofit reports to the fullest—sharing information, documentation, photos, and video with GuideStar's visitors.

The American Health Assistance Foundation is certified under the Maryland Nonprofits' Standards for Excellence.

AHAF’s website content complies with all eight HONcode standards for trustworthy health information.

AHAF is a member of and in compliance with the Direct Marketing Association’s Guidelines for Ethical Business Practice and other DMA standards for nonprofit organizations.

AHAF is dedicated to good stewardship of contributions from our generous donors. Both the AHAF Board of Directors and its staff members strive to reduce costs so that as much funding as possible is invested in world class research and public outreach. We freely offer information on our complete financial picture through our annual report, consolidated financial statement and IRS form 990.

At the end of each fiscal year an independent auditor completes a detailed statement of AHAF’s financial position including assets, expenses, cash flows, support and revenues, and liabilities. Look at this past year’s consolidated financial statement (PDF, 24 pages).
