Personal Event for Macular Degeneration

When I was diagnosed with macular degeneration and I was told that it was not treatable, I was terrified. It was the first time that I had even heard that such a disease existed. Apparently, the little blurry spot that was becoming such a nuisance would grow, and eventually I would lose my central vision. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what life would be like once that happened.

My form of the disease, known as dry macular degeneration, progressed slowly. However, once I began to notice significant changes in my central vision, negative feelings and worry took over. I was once an outgoing social butterfly and slowly become withdrawn and preferred being at home. However, over the years I have learned to use my other senses to the best of my ability and I have learned how get the most out of my peripheral vision.

Essentially, life still goes on even though you have macular degeneration and you must stay positive!

I believe that one day researchers will find out what causes macular degeneration and that a cure will be found. But, the only way to ensure that this happens is to support research, which is why, I’m raising funds in order to find a cure!
