The Prevalence Of Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, and Diabetic Retinopathy Increases

Researchers analyzed claims data for over 10,000 Medicare beneficiaries from 1991 to 1999. During this time, the prevalence of macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy associated with aging increased significantly. In fact, at the end of nine years, nearly half of the surviving Medicare beneficiaries had at least one of these diseases. The results of this study were published in the September issue of the Archives of Ophthalmology.
